Brittany Stanley started Spotlight Events in 2014. Since that time, the wedding and event planning and decor company has helped to decorate over 500 celebrations.
Brittany had always loved decorating; her plan was to become an interior designer. But after a few years spent planning weddings as an employee in another company, she realized where her passion lay. This is where she felt she could really make an impact.
The push happened when Brittany’s job was terminated: she took her husband’s advice to follow her dreams and start her own business. She hasn’t looked back.
Brittany wanted “to bring people to this island and show them how beautiful it is.” (In fact, many of her clients already know that: they are Newfoundlanders who live elsewhere and come home to be married.)
One thing Brittany says she loves about her work is “being part of someone’s best day ever.” And she works hard to make it the best day possible. Brittany’s friends describe her as a perfectionist, a trait she feels is essential to success in the industry. Perfection, she says, is the priority for her and her team.
Brittany sees the Newfoundland wedding industry as a supportive place rather than a competitive one. She’s worked to build relationships with many other decorators and business owners. She considers them a team of businesses helping one another.
Brittany’s view of the future is full of optimism: “’The best is yet to come’ is a quote I live by. I want to grow in this industry, learn new things and amaze people every chance I get.” That future looks like a busy one—Brittany’s focus for the next few years will be her second business, Luxury Wedding Show (with business partner Gord Delaney). Her ultimate goal is to own a venue where she can host events: that, she says, will be the final piece of the puzzle.
