On the Road Again . . .

by Jennifer Bessell

I love the summer! Long days and even longer evenings, sunshine, and everything slows down just a little. It is a beautiful time to reflect on all that is happening, celebrate the wins, and reconnect with what you value most.

On the work front, what I value most is the membership of NLOWE. Each day I learn something new from the people with whom I am fortunate to come into contact—the challenges of being a woman business owner and the amazing sense of accomplishment that comes with each new success. For me, summer is a time to reconnect NLOWE members and to ensure that, as an organization, we understand what business supports women need and make sure we have the capacity to deliver.

On June 8, we held our annual general meeting, followed by a wine and cheese networking event. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on all we accomplished in 2022 and the highlights so far for 2023. Thank you to all who came out in support of the work of NLOWE.

In July and August, I will be hitting the road, travelling across this beautiful province to visit many members and communities. NLOWE will be hosting a series of Knowledge Nuggets and Networking events in various communities to foster further connections among all our members throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Networking opportunities are just one of the many services that NLOWE members value, and we are excited to host these gatherings throughout the province.

These events will also provide a great forum for participants to ask questions about NLOWE services and activities. We have an exciting fall schedule, with a leadership development series that we plan to take on the road! These sessions are designed to create confidence and unleash the inner leader in all of us. Stay tuned for more information later this summer.

On the service front, did you know that NLOWE now has a loan program? NLOWE is the loan fund partner for the Women’s Enterprise Organizations of Canada’s Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund (WELF). What makes this fund unique is that it takes a gender analysis approach to the loan process. NLOWE can help women entrepreneurs with their loan applications for up to $50K in financing. For more information, speak to any of our business advisors.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg! I have so much information to share. And a lot of listening to do. I can’t wait to connect with you this summer, so please do come out and say hello when I visit a community near you!
