President's Message

By Denise Goodyear

Welcome to the summer edition of The Advisor. As things are starting to feel a little more normal, I hope you have been able to stay safe and keep your business growing through the pandemic. We are confident the articles in this edition offer timely advice and resources to help you and your business advance.

This past year has been an interesting one. I am pleased to see how NLOWE was able to adapt to the changing needs of women business owners, to provide quality resources and adjust programs for a virtual platform. While many organizations struggled to maintain their membership, NLOWE’s grew by almost 20 percent. Our move to a virtual conference allowed members from all over Newfoundland and Labrador to participate when they would not have been able to in person. In the future, we will ensure virtual inclusion where possible to boost provincial engagement.

As a marketer and avid networker, I have been involved with business-related organizations for more than 20 years. I give back to the business community by joining committees and boards and contributing to the advancement of these organizations. Joining the NLOWE board has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

I am fortunate to be surrounded by smart, driven women who invest the time necessary to mentor new board members. When I started on the board, two such woman were particularly inspirational for me and have now finished their terms. As they depart, I want to take this opportunity to thank Margaret Budgell and Sarah Lynn Russell for their incredible commitment to NLOWE in recent years. These business owners have invested significant time in strategically growing NLOWE. Thank you for your dedication.

I am delighted to welcome Charlene Brophy, President and CEO of Fonemed, and Jacqui Winter, President and CEO of HR Project Partners, to our board of directors. The board is confident that the experience and determination these trailblazing women have brought to their own businesses will benefit NLOWE tremendously.

As things begin to open and life resumes socially, we hope to be able to come together in person for our awards gala in the fall. After more than a year of social isolation, we are determined this will be one of our best events ever! Please consider the women business owners who inspire you and nominate them. You can find out more by visiting nlowe.org/Awards. Nominations close August 6, 2021.

Wishing you all a fantastic, healthy, and productive summer.

Stay safe, everyone,

Denise
